Low Vision
Available for In-Person and Zoom Presentations
Most patients with vision problems benefit from glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery such as LASIK. However, other patients have eye conditions that don’t respond to standard optical devices or continued surgical intervention. Patients who suffer from low or partial vision require specialized optometric care.
This lecture is an overview of the visual conditions that might lead to a patient requiring low vision services and the management options available. Here are a few topics covered in the presentation:
Review of basic eye anatomy and physiology
Pathology associated with low vision
Central vs. peripheral vision loss
The low vision exam
A gentle introduction to the optics of low vision
Psychological implications
Surgical treatment
Optical treatment: when surgery is no longer an option
Self care and home management
