Vision and Academic Success
Available for In-Person and Zoom Presentations
As most teachers know, vision is responsible for 80% of what a child learns. When the visual system is not working properly, children will not learn to their full potential. Vision problems are often detected at home by an astute parent, or at school during a vision screening. When problems are not recognized, treatment is delayed.
Some of these vision problems create behavioral changes in children (some may not appear to be associated with a vision problem). There are too many instances where the child is misdiagnosed with learning disabilities.
This lecture is designed for new and experienced teachers, whether it be certification classes or in-service programs, who require a complete knowledge of how visual conditions affect a child’s ability to learn. Topics covered include:
Anatomy of a child’s visual system
The total process of vision: Sensory, Motor, and Central Processing
Visual demands in the classroom environment
Learning-related vision problems
Kids and digital devices
